Beasant Set For Rovers Coaching Role
Dave Beasant is set to be named the new Bristol Rovers Goalkeeping Coach.
Beasant has already been training with the squad and is expected to sign a deal with in the next day or two, the deal will be on a part time basis only. Beasant made over 770 appearances as a keeper and also represented England at 'B' International level seven times and full International twice. Beasant will be most remembered for his time at Wimbledon and he became the first goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final when he blocked John Aldridge's penalty for Liverpool in 1988, Wimbledon went on to secure a famous 1-0 win. He was also the first goalkeeper to captain his team in an FA Cup final.
He also had spells at Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Chelsea, Newcastle Untied and Brighton. He has worked as a coach at Premier League Fulham and Northern Ireland and most recently as a senior coach at the Glenn Hoddle Academy coaching outfield players as well as goalkeepers.
