Another Home Win For Rovers

Bristol Rovers
3 - 1
Newport County

The Memorial Stadium

25th Jan 2014

Attendance: 7,288

Referee:

John Ward made two changes to the side bring in Chris Beardsley and new signing Kaid Mohamed. Matt Harrold was missing from the squad after picking up a knock in the draw at York.

There was bad conditions for both teams to deal with, heavy rain and strong winds made it difficult for the team to play. New signing Kaid Mohamed had Rovers best chance on 25 minutes, but the winger shot wide. Mildenhall was on hand to tip a shot from former Rovers striker Rene Howe on to the bar. On the stroke of half time Kaid Mohamed put Rovers 1-0 up, firing home from close range.

Three minutes after the break Eliot Richards made it 2-0,skipping past a challenge from Andy Sandell before arrowing a low shot inside the far post from the edge of the area. Rene Howe pulled one back for Newport on 57 minutes, but Rovers once again scored in the last minutes of the game. John Joe O'Toole made it 3-1 with a fine curling effort from outside the box.

Rovers moved up to 18th in League Two after yesterdays win and next face Accrington Stanley at The Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.

John Ward

'We passed the ball well when we could and it was an important result ahead of another home game with Accrington Stanley on Tuesday.'

Justin Edinburgh

'We deserved a clean sheet at the break because we had put bodies on the line, so to concede just before half-time was very disappointing,'
