The Memorial Stadium
21st Feb 2014
John Ward brought back defender Mark McChrystal in to the heart of the Rovers defence with Tom Lockyer moving in to midfield and Seanan Clucas was dropped to the bench.
Rovers started brightly and were the better side throughout and it took a fine save from the Burton keeper to keep out a curling Lee Brown effort after 15 minutes. Clarkson who was looking sharp headed just wide in the first half. Lee brown also caused mayhem in the Burton box which they managed to scrabble away with Rovers appealing for a penalty.
Rovers carried on piling the pressure on in the second half and deservedly took the lead on 70 minutes when Smith burst down the wing and crossed the ball for Clarkson to head home. Just nine minutes later Rovers doubled their lead when John Joe O'Toole was on hand to tap home from close range after the Burton keeper failed to hold on to Clarkson shot from the edge of the area, it was O'Toole's 14 goal of the season. Rovers nearly made it 3-0 but Chris Beardsley's goal was disallowed for offside.
Rovers moved up to 16th in League Two, eight points above the relegation zone. Next up for Rovers is a tough trip away to second placed Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.
