Gillespie Off The Bench To Snatch A Point

Scunthorpe United
1 - 1
Bristol Rovers

Glanford Park

25th Feb 2014

Attendance: 3,318

John Ward named a unchanged side to face promotion chasing Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park.

Scunthorpe are in impressive form having not lost for 17 games. Scunthorpe started the game brightly creating a few opening but Rovers stood strong and started to create chances themselves.David Clarkson and Kaid Mohamed both had good chances for Rovers and Rovers started to control the game, but it was Scunthorpe who took the lead with just over 30 minutes gone, Sam Winnall headed home from a driven cross. Rovers best player had to go off injured just before the break with what looks like ligament damage and was replaced by Steven Gillespie.

In the second half Paddy Madden had a shot easily saved by Mildenhall and half time sub Ollie Clarke had a low driven shot saved. Winnall almost added to his personal tally only to see a header come back off the crossbar in the 67th minute and for Rovers there was chances for Clarkson and Mohamed, before Rovers grabbed a deserved equalizer when Steven Gillespie headed home Michael Smiths cross.

Rovers sit in 19th in League Two six points above the relegation zone. Next up for Rovers is an away trip to Northampton Town who sit in the relegation zone.
