Vital Gas Interviews:A More Piratey Game

Vital Gas Interviews:A More Piratey Game
1) When did you become a Gashead and why? I'm not sure, but Bill Dodgin was manager. My father and grandfather used to take me. And I grew up in the Gaslands

2) What is your opinion on the season so far? Very good. I like watching our hard-working team. We get no easy victories, and they are (usually) easy to get behind

3) Best moment(s) of this season so far? Not sure. I was mighty pleased when Gaffney got off the mark for us. And I've liked some of Matty's best passes - he has got vision at times

4) Worst moment(s) of this season so far?I'm not sure exactly when it was (autumn?), but losing the court case (round one). The Chesham result was also pretty grim

5) Do you expect any arrivals before the loan window shuts and IF you could bring in a player or two, who (realistically) would you opt for? No real ideas on that. I look to Darrell for that sort of thing. I like a player who puts bums on seats though - like Le Tissier, King Rickie, Vitas, Wally, people who can sometimes do things that the others can't

6) What is your opinion of Darrell Clarke now he has been in charge for nearly two years? He's a bit rough around the edges, but young, thoughtful, passionate, learning on the job and an interesting character in a good way. He's delivered a relegation, a visit to Wembley and a promotion in that two years. He's been a very busy fellow

7) Early days I know, but what is your opinion on Wael Al-Qadi At first blush he seems a proper gent, and a rounded and sophisticated bloke to boot. He's untested as far as I'm concerned, and you don't really find out about someone until they are tested, but I think I'm with the mainstream in being still delighted after 5 days of his family's ownership
and Steve Hammer so far? I'm not so sure about him. Football people are funny people, and he seems like a football person to me. He interviews OK though, and I'm guessing that Wael might have a decent nose for people

8) What do you expect from the new owners and if you could give them one bit of advice what would it be? If they'd deliver on what they've talked about so far that'll do me very nicely. I'd like them, in cricket terms, to play themselves in before they start going for the boundaries. I suppose my worst fear is that it might turn into a sort of 'Fish farming in Yemen' in reverse

9) If you could have one thing from the new owners, what (realistically) would it be? A 5-year programme of incremental improvements to all aspects of the club

10) Now Nick Higgs has gone, what is your opinion on his reign as Chairman? Better than most would say I think. He took the club on to build a sparkly new stadium, and got a long way along the way. I think he found the job a big stretch though (which might be something to do with 'football people', I don't know). I suspect he's a nice man under a bit of prickliness

11) Where do you see us in 10 years time? Whoah! One step at a time. Far too many of us getting ahead of ourselves at the moment. But winning European matches at the UWE in spite of that

12) Favourite current player? The Beard. He has got a lot of Bristol Rovers about him I think

13) Favourite former player/s? Dick Sheppard and Devon White

14) If you were stuck on a desert island with one person who would you most and least like it to be? I'd better say my wife, though I won't say for which of those, and any one of the identikit big gobs off reality telly, probably

15) And finally, have you looked where Jordan is on the map? No need - I was offered a job there once and looked it up then. Far too close to Iraq for my liking at the time!
